Greetings outdoorspeople!!
Am somewhat new to the Bay Area and am wondering if you have any favorite hikes to great picnic spots--either in the city or anywhere in the Bay Area. One with a view would be divine.
Also, where are good places to find solitude?
Am thinking of a hiking trail, lake, island I could canoe/Kayak to and/or beach where there aren't so many bodies, lots of trees, sand, ocean, cliffs or sky. Perhaps even an overnight hike.
Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Re: Picnics and Solitude
Thu, May 17, 2007 - 12:59 PMI would check out Mt. Tam and Point Reyes National Seashore in the North Bay. (especially Bass Lake, Cataract Falls, or Divide Meadow.)
Tilden and Redwood Regional parks in the East Bay.
Big Basin and Butano in the South Bay (especially if you like redwoods)
Or Angel Island in the center of it all.

Re: Picnics and Solitude
Thu, June 28, 2007 - 11:34 PMI've been on some deserted trails in the redwoods in the santa cruz mtn range:
Sanborn County Park (Saratoga/off hwy 9)
Huddart County park (Woodside)
For both of these, if you head uphill you are likely to be on quiet trails. families and most casual hikers stay around the base of the mtn.
